Raimund Diebitsch took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maurice Scheringer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 21st match minute, BVBx09 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Werner Portmann to maneuver through the defense. Maurice Scheringer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Raimund Diebitsch having to interfere. If Vito Grabowski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 49th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Thomas Pätzold recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Maurice Scheringer got free with Raimund Diebitsch in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Thomas Pätzold sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Karlsruher SC's Thomas Pätzold in the 62nd minute got a chance for a shot 62nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Karlsruher SC's Heiner Dembowsky got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Karlsruher SC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
