Seating: 1734, VIP seats: 4) The mood of the audience was pleasant when André Schock made the kick off which started today's match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Franco Stumpf during the 3rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Franco Stumpf kicked well hit freekick during the 3rd minute of the match. Rudolf Pott showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ralph Mentrup, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. 1.FC Nürnberg's Rudolf Pott played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alexander Karger in the 11th minute of play. If André Schock had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Filzbuch getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Kristian Pitterling hit a great ball. Klaus Bettinger acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 20th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Ocke Siller. After 26 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Filzbuch! When Berthold Burgdorf came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the 1.FC Nürnberg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Berthold Burgdorf couldn't finish the play. Klaus Bettinger was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Berthold Burgdorf showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 35 minute of play. Berthold Burgdorf fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Klaus Bettinger having to interfere. After 41 played minutes Filzbuch got a freekick which was hit by Trent Bogs. In the 43rd minute, 1.FC Nürnberg's Berthold Burgdorf dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-0. 1.FC Nürnberg's Clint Deling got a good chance for a goal in the 49th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Berthold Burgdorf to make the kick off. 57 minutes into the match, Filzbuch's goal looked a bit too open when Ronald Scholz came free, but Klaus Bettinger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Filzbuch's zone, Berthold Burgdorf stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Klaus Bettinger came out of the goal and Berthold Burgdorf tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Berthold Burgdorf fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Klaus Bettinger having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronald Scholz in the 63rd minute of play forced Filzbuch's goalkeeper Klaus Bettinger to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Ronald Scholz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Berthold Burgdorf received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Klaus Bettinger tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Klaus Bettinger stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ronald Scholz's shot from short distance in the 72nd minute. Ronald Scholz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Klaus Bettinger having to make a save. A collision led to Filzbuch getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Ralph Thomaschewski hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Berthold Burgdorf in the 81st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Klaus Bettinger prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a little luck, 1.FC Nürnberg's Rudolf Pott got control of the ball when Alexander Karger tried to sneak it across the goal line. 95 minutes into the match, Ronald Scholz notched a goal, 5-0, to the right of Filzbuch's Klaus Bettinger. Klaus Bettinger was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 1.FC Nürnberg walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
