Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Berthold Burgdorf in the 3rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. Rudolf Pott made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Cosmo Scheewe kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Nikolaus Wilnauer blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rudolf Pott having to make a save. The crowd rose to their feet as 1.FC Nürnberg's Berthold Burgdorf slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Rochus Gall. That made the score 2-2 after 40 minutes of play. In the 44th minute Titus Kunstwadl shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rudolf Pott saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Berthold Burgdorf made a kick off. 55 minutes into the match, Arental's goal looked a bit too open when Ronald Scholz came free, but Rochus Gall reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 55 minutes into the game, Ronald Scholz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-2. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 71st minute, Nikolaus Wilnauer got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, 1.FC Nürnberg's Franco Stumpf got a free kick in the 74th minute. Rudolf Pott stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nikolaus Wilnauer's shot from short distance in the 76th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Ronald Scholz managed to get in a good position for a shot. 1.FC Nürnberg's supporters rose to their feet, but Ronald Scholz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rochus Gall breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Nikolaus Wilnauer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 85 minutes into the game, Ronny Knappe was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. 1.FC Nürnberg's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Arental the free kick. After 85 played minutes 1.FC Nürnberg got a freekick which was hit by Ronny Knappe. 91 minutes into the match, 1.FC Nürnberg's goal looked a bit too open when Nikolaus Wilnauer came free, but Rudolf Pott reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
