When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Berthold Burgdorf took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Jan Hänssler to make any attempt to save it. The supporters of Hamburger SV booed when 1.FC Nürnberg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Clint Deling didn't get a good kick on the ball. 41 minutes into the match, Hamburger SV's Jakob Murmann sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rudolf Pott narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ronald Scholz in the 44thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Jan Hänssler, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Ronald Scholz charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down.
