After some fancy dribbling in the 19th minute, Dirk Kokott managed to get in a good position for a shot. Thiago Pernambucano breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thiago Pernambucano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ehrhard Hermbusch in the 23rd minute of play. Thiago Pernambucano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sébastien Meininger, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 46th minute Ehrhard Hermbusch shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thiago Pernambucano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Carsten Balzer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Heiko Fischer having to interfere. Thiago Pernambucano made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Dirk Kokott sent off a good shot on target. After having played for 89 minutes, Ehrhard Hermbusch managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gelb Rot lions's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ehrhard Hermbusch was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Ehrhard Hermbusch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
