Spectators: 7205 (Terracing: 5605, Seating: 1600, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Kai Gläßel took the kick off in the first half of the match. After a rather tough play, FC Frankfurt's Kai Gläßel got a free kick in the 3rd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wolf-Dieter Ruck got free with Ulf Zöller in the 4th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in FC Frankfurt reached it. Kai Gläßel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Welf Krasselt having to interfere. With a little luck, FC Frankfurt's Ulf Zöller got control of the ball when Wolf-Dieter Ruck tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ulf Zöller made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Josef Krause in the 39th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Josef Krause in the 41st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ulf Zöller saved FC Frankfurt from getting behind. Kai Gläßel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of FC Frankfurt booed when Coldemüntje was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Otmar Uhlenbrock didn't get a good kick on the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Coldemüntje's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Frankfurt the free kick. FC Frankfurt's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aimo Bauer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, FC Frankfurt's Aimo Bauer got a free kick in the 94th minute. In the 95th match minute, FC Frankfurt was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Willy Ochs to maneuver through the defense. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the FC Frankfurt players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
