Spectators: 7342 (Terracing: 5612, Seating: 1720, VIP seats: 10) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Mark Behling started the match with the kick off. In the 4th minute Alonso Kneissli shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Markus Markau saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 5th minute, Walsrode's Ewald Jakobs seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Ewald Jakobs the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Walsrode protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Ewald Jakobs had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 5 minutes into the game, one of Walsrode:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Markus Markau went to the wrong direction when Rainer Innerwinkler was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. 17 minutes into the game, Walsrode's Simon Hospelt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jörg Gabriel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Jörg Gabriel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Heiko Gharibian, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. In the 25th minute, Erasmus Frowerk left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Borussia Mönchengladbach fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Markus Markau didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Erasmus Frowerk went, in the 28th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. 32 minutes into the match, Borussia Mönchengladbach's goal looked a bit too open when Simon Hospelt came free, but Jörg Gabriel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Walsrode booed when Borussia Mönchengladbach was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mark Behling didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Claus Elter in the 36th minute of play forced Borussia Mönchengladbach's goalkeeper Jörg Gabriel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Markus Markau made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alonso Kneissli in the 39th minute of play. 40 minutes into the match, Walsrode's goal looked a bit too open when Mark Behling came free, but Markus Markau reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Simon Hospelt stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jörg Gabriel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Simon Hospelt, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. In the 62nd minute Simon Hospelt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jörg Gabriel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jörg Gabriel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Heiko Gharibian, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Claus Elter took the ball and in the 70 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jörg Gabriel. Jörg Gabriel dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-3. In the 73rd minute, Erasmus Frowerk got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience was convinced that Simon Hospelt's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jörg Gabriel was relentless in the 84th minute of the game. 86 minutes into the match, Borussia Mönchengladbach's goal looked a bit too open when Simon Hospelt came free, but Jörg Gabriel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Walsrode played a much better game than Borussia Mönchengladbach and deserved their victory. The Borussia Mönchengladbach players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
