The referee ignored Eintracht Trier's protests and gave Rudolf Gielnik a yellow card for diving instead. Montgomery Bleck took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 11th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Alexander Drobinski. Eintracht Trier's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. But to his dismay, Forusan Meinhardt quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Alexander Drobinski showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Herbert Felber, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Alexander Drobinski showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Torsten Lachmann made the kick off in the second half. Torsten Lachmann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute.
