Eckhard Kittler might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Adrian Mahlberg. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eckhard Kittler ran back to his position shaking his head. Adrian Mahlberg came out of the goal in the 16th minute to try and stop a shot by Abgunst's Dustin Haug. But to his dismay, Dustin Haug quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. The audience was convinced that Dustin Haug's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Adrian Mahlberg was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. 26 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund's goal looked a bit too open when Dustin Haug came free, but Adrian Mahlberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 28thth minute of the game Dustin Haug who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Borussia Dortmund's Adrian Mahlberg was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With 31 minutes on the clock, Apollo Bürklen commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 30th minute of the game. One of Abgunst:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Borussia Dortmund:s goal. Richart Bunje sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 37 minutes into the game, Abgunst's Andy Reile nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Adrian Mahlberg made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Dieter Kaufmann recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Andy Reile managed to get in a good position for a shot. Abgunst's supporters rose to their feet, but Andy Reile was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Adrian Mahlberg breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 2-2 after a close first half.

If Tyler Kampf had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gregor Halfpap hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Tyler Kampf, 59 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when Abgunst was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dustin Haug didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eckhard Kittler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adrian Mahlberg having to interfere. Samir Mackenthun fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fridun Lübke having to interfere. When Eckhard Kittler came up free with the goalie in the 74th minute, the Abgunst fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eckhard Kittler couldn't finish the play. Dustin Haug received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Adrian Mahlberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Helmut Mense during the 84th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Abgunst booed when Borussia Dortmund was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Helmut Mense didn't get a good kick on the ball. Abgunst's Richart Bunje got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Dustin Haug had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Richart Bunje struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Adrian Mahlberg didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Abgunst. Abgunst were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
