In the 3rd minute Marcel Hildebrand shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Albert Holle saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Harald Prewo scored 0-1 in the 7th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Asmus Rady, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 11 played minutes Oberpierscheid FSV got a freekick which was hit by Roger Balland. Jafar Pape's late challenge caught a Borussia Dortmund's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jafar Pape helped the player get up and apologised. After 20 played minutes Oberpierscheid FSV got a freekick which was hit by Jafar Pape. Willi Schwaebe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paolo Piesche in the 31st minute of play forced Oberpierscheid FSV's goalkeeper Asmus Rady to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 40th minute Willi Schwaebe shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Asmus Rady saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Borussia Dortmund were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Matthias W Drewniak stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Maiko Welp hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Josip Gänßle sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Charly Feige fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Asmus Rady having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Borussia Dortmund's Cyril Alpermann got a free kick in the 62nd minute. Asmus Rady took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Willi Schwaebe, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 78 minutes of play, Borussia Dortmund's Paolo Piesche made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Asmus Rady was left in no man's land by his defense there! Friedemann Gögge hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. Cyril Alpermann hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. Albert Holle made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcel Hildebrand in the 85th minute of play. Asmus Rady showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Harald Prewo, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. When the final whistle sounded Borussia Dortmund left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Oberpierscheid FSV.
