Hagelskamp FSV's Manfred Hospelt got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Paul Hammermüller showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Oswald Bruckhaus, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. 13 minutes into the game, Manfred Hospelt was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Hagelskamp FSV's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave KSV Hessen Kassel the free kick. Oswald Bruckhaus sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 19 minutes, Pitt Kennerknecht managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. KSV Hessen Kassel's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pitt Kennerknecht was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Willi Ross charged in rather forcefully in the 24th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Willi Ross the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of KSV Hessen Kassel booed when Hagelskamp FSV was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Willi Ross didn't get a good kick on the ball. Oswald Bruckhaus's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paul Hammermüller read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. Jürgen Ingenhoven's late challenge caught a Hagelskamp FSV's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jürgen Ingenhoven helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to KSV Hessen Kassel getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Jürgen Ingenhoven hit a great ball. 34 minutes in the game, Manfred Hospelt fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Artur Röhmer having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Berthold Quick managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hagelskamp FSV's supporters rose to their feet, but Berthold Quick was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Artur Röhmer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Goran Stahl in the 38th minute of play forced KSV Hessen Kassel's goalkeeper Artur Röhmer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 39th minute, Hagelskamp FSV's Manfred Hospelt dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. In the 46th minute, Goran Stahl got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Manfred Hospelt to make the kick off. Paul Hammermüller showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oswald Bruckhaus in the 56th minute of the match. After 59 minutes of play Hagelskamp FSV's Manfred Hospelt was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 60th minute, Manfred Hospelt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Ivar Gundelach had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Hagelskamp FSV fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. After 94 minutes, Goran Stahl mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Hagelskamp FSV and the KSV Hessen Kassel players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 94 played minutes Hagelskamp FSV got a freekick which was hit by Goran Stahl.
