When the match had gone on for 12 minutes, Rainier Pasch put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Mesut Hirtzel. Andreas Heinkel's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mesut Hirtzel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 16th minute of play. Malte Schulz hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. Arthur Bolz took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 24th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Mesut Hirtzel. FC Simon 1978's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Mesut Hirtzel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gunter Schröder sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Ralek Gigl hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Ture Barth recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 57 minutes, Benedikt Hübner managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Simon 1978's supporters crossed their fingers, but Benedikt Hübner was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. FC Simon 1978's Mesut Hirtzel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andreas Heinkel in the 60th minute of play. Fred Eggeling's late challenge caught a Enkelstrotort's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Enkelstrotort's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Simon 1978 the free kick.
