Kuno Kindler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as Blockshagen's Kuno Kindler slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Lennart Tolkmitt. That made the score 1-0 after 8 minutes of play. 13 minutes into the game, Manfred Köppchen was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Blockshagen's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SC Freiburg the free kick. A collision led to Blockshagen getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Manfred Köppchen hit a great ball. Sven Kiefer kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. Jens-Uwe Beimes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Arno Schlesinger tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 29th match minute, SC Freiburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hansi Eisele to maneuver through the defense. 31 minutes into the match, SC Freiburg's goalkeeper Lennart Tolkmitt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ricky Schuster. Hansi Eisele fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arno Schlesinger having to interfere. After 35 minutes, Mathias Konermann mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Blockshagen and the SC Freiburg players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee gave SC Freiburg a penalty, 37 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Theodor Rompel, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Blockshagen's Arno Schlesinger. 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kuno Kindler in the 45th minute of play forced SC Freiburg's goalkeeper Lennart Tolkmitt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 46 minutes into the game, Theodor Rompel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SC Freiburg's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Blockshagen the free kick. After 47 played minutes SC Freiburg got a freekick which was hit by Theodor Rompel. If Kuno Kindler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 49th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half SC Freiburg were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hansi Eisele to make the kick off. When Arthur Carlebach fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SC Freiburg's protests and gave Arthur Carlebach a yellow card for diving instead. Arthur Carlebach kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. 55 minutes into the game, Finn Stockburger was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SC Freiburg's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Blockshagen the free kick. When Kuno Kindler came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Blockshagen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kuno Kindler couldn't finish the play. In the 60th minute Kuno Kindler shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lennart Tolkmitt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The corner ended in Alexander Schick almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but SC Freiburg's Lennart Tolkmitt did a great save. Arno Schlesinger made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jens-Uwe Beimes in the 65th minute. Arno Schlesinger was a little too slow when Hansi Eisele got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 66th minute. The score was now 1-3. After 69 minutes of play SC Freiburg's Finn Stockburger was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After a rather tough play, SC Freiburg's Finn Stockburger got a free kick in the 70th minute. Jens-Uwe Beimes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jens-Uwe Beimes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arno Schlesinger having to interfere. Lennart Tolkmitt stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kuno Kindler's shot from short distance in the 83rd minute. Kuno Kindler struck a weak shot in the 85th minute. Lennart Tolkmitt didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Blockshagen. Willi Rädel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some careless play in the SC Freiburg defense, Kuno Kindler kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lennart Tolkmitt. The SC Freiburg fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lennart Tolkmitt should have stopped the shot. 94 minutes into the match, Blockshagen's goalkeeper Arno Schlesinger had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jens-Uwe Beimes.
