Without hesitation aimed to the right of Balko Oberländer, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Hamit Hadewicz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Steve Deistler in the 11th minute of play forced 1. Fc Kaiserslautern's goalkeeper Didi Ocker to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Holzmanns's Emanuel Pfitzner got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Didi Ocker took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Steve Deistler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Didi Ocker showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emanuel Pfitzner, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Didi Ocker made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Steve Deistler in the 31st minute of play. Steve Deistler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Didi Ocker having to interfere. Emanuel Pfitzner blasted a shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Didi Ocker having to make a save. In the 35th minute Steve Deistler shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Didi Ocker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Emanuel Pfitzner had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Steve Deistler to strike the kick off in the second half. The crowd rose to their feet as Steve Deistler kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Didi Ocker. That made the score 0-1 in the 54 minute of play. 57 minutes into the match, Holzmanns's Steve Deistler sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Didi Ocker narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Oliver Geier fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Holzmanns's protests and gave Oliver Geier a yellow card for diving instead. Hamit Hadewicz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 62 minutes, Michael Wahl managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. 1. Fc Kaiserslautern's supporters crossed their fingers, but Michael Wahl was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Steve Deistler in the 69th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Didi Ocker saved 1. Fc Kaiserslautern from getting behind. Hamit Hadewicz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Balko Oberländer having to interfere. If Michael Wahl had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 1. Fc Kaiserslautern's Didi Ocker proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save 1. Fc Kaiserslautern from getting a goal against them. Fc Kaiserslautern supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Holzmanns's performance. The match ended with a win for Holzmanns.
