Spectators: 7453 (Terracing: 5704, Seating: 1749, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Dagobert Remmers started the match with the kick off. When Olav Steinki fell near the penalty area in the 3rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ikendorf's protests and gave Olav Steinki a yellow card for diving instead. Olav Steinki hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. Uwe Klomfaß blasted a shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ivica Manes having to make a save. In the 14th minute, Gunther Strobel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Ikendorf booed when St.Pauli was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gunther Strobel didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ivica Manes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gunther Strobel in the 19th minute of play. Knud Ockmann took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dagobert Remmers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Knud Ockmann showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dagobert Remmers in the 26th minute of the match. Henk Zischer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ivica Manes having to interfere. Ivica Manes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gunther Strobel, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. Ikendorf's Dagobert Remmers got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Knud Ockmann came out of the goal in the 45th minute to try and stop a shot by Ikendorf's Dagobert Remmers. But to his dismay, Dagobert Remmers quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gunther Strobel was the one to do the kick off. Knud Ockmann made an important save on a dangerous shot by Leik Banty in the 51st minute. A collision led to St.Pauli getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Ben Grabert hit a great ball. Kees Seyller received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Knud Ockmann tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Ikendorf's zone, Henk Zischer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ivica Manes came out of the goal and Henk Zischer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 63rd minute of the game. One of Ikendorf:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of St.Pauli:s goal. 67 minutes into the game, Ben Grabert was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. St.Pauli's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ikendorf the free kick. A collision led to St.Pauli getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Ben Grabert hit a great ball. 68 minutes into the game, Henk Zischer was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. St.Pauli's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ikendorf the free kick. In the 68th minute, Henk Zischer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 72 minutes into the game, Dagobert Remmers recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Knud Ockmann. Dagobert Remmers showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-2. After 77 played minutes St.Pauli got a freekick which was hit by Bastian Mohler. Didier Klingberg took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 79th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Knud Ockmann. St.Pauli's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. If Kees Seyller had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thilo Lintner kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dagobert Remmers in the 92nd minute of play forced St.Pauli's goalkeeper Knud Ockmann to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Ikendorf had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
