To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 13 minutes into the match, Hamburger Sportverein's goalkeeper Mario Nowack had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Hischam Jost. In the 16th minute, Justin Spörer ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Mario Nowack was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. 24 minutes into the match, Dalborn's goal looked a bit too open when Dankward Amstutz came free, but Adam Michallek reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Willi Rothensteiner fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adam Michallek having to interfere. 31 minutes into the match, Hamburger Sportverein's Willi Rothensteiner sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Adam Michallek narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Dankward Amstutz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adam Michallek having to interfere. Dalborn's Adam Michallek played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Willi Rothensteiner in the 40th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Justin Spörer to strike the kick off in the second half. Dankward Amstutz who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 53rdth minute tested the skills of Adam Michallek when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Adam Michallek made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Dankward Amstutz sent off a good shot on target. Willi Rothensteiner recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that Willi Rothensteiner's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Adam Michallek was relentless in the 73rd minute of the game. In the 76thth minute of the game Willi Rothensteiner who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Dalborn's Adam Michallek was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Dankward Amstutz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adam Michallek having to interfere. 80 minutes into the game, Bonifatius Mehrwald was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Hamburger Sportverein's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Dalborn the free kick. After 82 minutes, Heribert Mies mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dalborn and the Hamburger Sportverein players grew even worse after the yellow card. Bonifatius Mehrwald was shown his second yellow card after 84 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match.
