Hannover City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fortuna the free kick. Robert Polzin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frans Pethe having to interfere. Frans Pethe stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hardi Wilnauer's shot from short distance in the 15th minute. In the 17th minute, Reineke Kurbjuweit hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Paul Rippert was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 18th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. When Lukas Lorent fell near the penalty area in the 20th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fortuna's protests and gave Lukas Lorent a yellow card for diving instead. 23 minutes into the match, Hannover City's goal looked a bit too open when Stefan Liebing came free, but Utz Sing reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Oskar Appenzeller came free with the goalkeeper in the 30th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Utz Sing could save by the left post. Utz Sing made a fantastic save in the 32nd minute, when Oskar Appenzeller sent off a good shot on target. In a very dangerous position, a player in Hannover City fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 32nd minute. Penalty! In the 34th minute there was a penalty for Fortuna. Paul Rippert stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Utz Sing. 1-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Oskar Appenzeller managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fortuna's supporters rose to their feet, but Oskar Appenzeller was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Utz Sing breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Oskar Appenzeller sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Stefan Liebing received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Utz Sing tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Stefan Liebing in the 56th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Utz Sing prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Robert Polzin might have been able to make a better finish in the 61st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Frans Pethe. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Robert Polzin ran back to his position shaking his head. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hardi Wilnauer in the 62nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Frans Pethe saved Fortuna from getting behind. Helko Zimmert's late challenge caught a Hannover City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Helko Zimmert helped the player get up and apologised. 65 minutes into the game, one of Fortuna:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Dietrich Blass shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Hannover City's Utz Sing played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oskar Appenzeller in the 76th minute of play. Stefan Liebing sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Oskar Appenzeller recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 79th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Utz Sing showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oskar Appenzeller in the 82nd minute of the match.
