The referee showed Lukas Lorent the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Hannover City booed when Fortuna was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lukas Lorent didn't get a good kick on the ball. Utz Sing showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oskar Appenzeller in the 23rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hardi Wilnauer in the 25th minute of play forced Fortuna's goalkeeper Frans Pethe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Stefan Liebing received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Utz Sing tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reineke Kurbjuweit's late challenge caught a Fortuna's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Reineke Kurbjuweit helped the player get up and apologised. In the 27th minute, Reineke Kurbjuweit hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Oskar Appenzeller came up free with the goalie in the 30th minute, the Fortuna fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Oskar Appenzeller couldn't finish the play. Utz Sing took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Oskar Appenzeller, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 33 played minutes Hardi Wilnauer rounded Fortuna's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-0. When Oskar Appenzeller came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Fortuna fans jumped to their feet. In the 39th minute the ball was on its way in behind Hannover City's goalkeeper Utz Sing, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hardi Wilnauer to make the kick off. Stefan Liebing fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Utz Sing having to interfere. In the 69th minute, Oskar Appenzeller got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Adrian Gnant during the 72nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Hannover City getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Adrian Gnant hit a great ball. 73 minutes into the match, Fortuna's Paul Rippert broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. When Adrian Gnant was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 74 minutes had been played. Adrian Gnant hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Utz Sing made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Oskar Appenzeller sent off a good shot on target. In the 91st minute, Stefan Liebing got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Hannover City's Utz Sing proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Hannover City from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stefan Liebing in the 96th minute of play forced Hannover City's goalkeeper Utz Sing to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Hannover City were victorious despite being under pressure from Fortuna for much of the match.
