Matthias Urban might have been able to make a better finish in the 5th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jorck Moll. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Matthias Urban ran back to his position shaking his head. 8 minutes into the match, Matthias Urban notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Hannover 96's Jorck Moll. Jorck Moll was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matthias Urban in the 12th minute of play forced Hannover 96's goalkeeper Jorck Moll to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Götz Krefft's late challenge caught a Hannover 96's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Götz Krefft helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Vordersteig getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Götz Krefft hit a great ball. Christen Rehnen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Beat Maus kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Daniel Korbel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Petro Karstens in the 21st minute of the match. Daniel Korbel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Damien Layher in the 24th minute. After 26 minutes, Joerg-Uwe Caesar mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vordersteig and the Hannover 96 players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 41st minute, Christen Rehnen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 44 minutes into the match, Hannover 96's goal looked a bit too open when Matthias Urban came free, but Jorck Moll reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jorck Moll showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Matthias Urban in the 47th minute of the match. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

51 minutes into the match, Vordersteig's goal looked a bit too open when Damien Layher came free, but Daniel Korbel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Christen Rehnen came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Vordersteig fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Christen Rehnen couldn't finish the play. If Matthias Urban had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 75th minute of the match, Christen Rehnen tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Jorck Moll saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Matthias Urban's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 76thth minute, Jorck Moll skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Jorck Moll showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sigi Steinki in the 80th minute of the match. Christen Rehnen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jorck Moll having to interfere. If Christen Rehnen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 90th minute, Matthias Urban got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jorck Moll showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Christen Rehnen, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Kurt Reffelmann's late challenge caught a Vordersteig's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After having played for 93 minutes, Christen Rehnen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vordersteig's supporters crossed their fingers, but Christen Rehnen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
