FC Wacker Gotha's supporters crossed their fingers, but Olaf Hammer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 23rd minute Antonio Schurr shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fred Rudloff saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fred Rudloff was left in no man's land by his defense there! Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Rolf Bode got free with Fred Rudloff in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Fred Rudloff showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Antonio Schurr in the 61st minute of the match. Uwe von Egidy kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. Rato Boie recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ibrahim Hofmann in the 73rd minute of play forced Monterrey FC's goalkeeper Fred Rudloff to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 74 minutes into the game, Antonio Schurr cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. Fred Rudloff was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rolf Bode in the 77th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fred Rudloff saved Monterrey FC from getting behind. In the 80th minute, Erkan Titz ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Niko Brömme was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-3. In the 84th minute, Ibrahim Hofmann hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Fred Rudloff made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rato Boie in the 88th minute. The audience was convinced that Antonio Schurr's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fred Rudloff was relentless in the 98th minute of the game. FC Wacker Gotha played a much better game than Monterrey FC and deserved their victory. The Monterrey FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
