A collision led to FC Schalke 04 getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Theodor Storm hit a great ball. Arne Danielzick struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Hasse Roth didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Schalke 04. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Asbjörn Bohn in the 22nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Roland Husser prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 31 minutes into the game, Samir Preußler was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Schalke 04's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Marienfelde FSV the free kick. In the 38th minute Asbjörn Bohn shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roland Husser saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Irvin Blieske had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Andreas Jaeniche charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Irvin Blieske couldn't finish the play. Marienfelde FSV's Asbjörn Bohn got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Samir Preußler was shown his second yellow card after 59 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Roland Husser came out of the goal and Asbjörn Bohn tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Arne Danielzick got free with Hasse Roth in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Marienfelde FSV's Ralf Scholven got a free kick in the 67th minute. Arne Danielzick succeeded in the game's 69th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-1. Roland Husser showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Irvin Blieske in the 72nd minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Irvin Blieske's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Roland Husser was relentless in the 74th minute of the game. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. FC Schalke 04 had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
