The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 4 minutes into the match, Schophoven FSV's goal looked a bit too open when Tsuneo Obele came free, but Meik Mostert reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Malte Thamm fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Meik Mostert having to interfere. Werder Bremen's Patrick Orth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Benno Naehring in the 10th minute of play. Meik Mostert showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tsuneo Obele, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. A collision led to Schophoven FSV getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Fred Ortlieb hit a great ball. With splendid footwork Tsuneo Obele arrived in front of goal to shoot 1-0 by the left pole in the game's 14th minute. 18 minutes into the game, Malte Thamm cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Meik Mostert was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After having played for 22 minutes, Tsuneo Obele managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Werder Bremen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tsuneo Obele was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Malte Thamm got free with Meik Mostert in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Malte Thamms short, quick shot in the 30thth minute got Meik Mostert to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After 32 minutes of play, Werder Bremen's Tsuneo Obele made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Meik Mostert was left in no man's land by his defense there! Meik Mostert had great luck who in the 35thth minute grab hold of the ball when Tsuneo Obele from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. Malte Thamm struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Meik Mostert didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Werder Bremen. 40 minutes into the game, one of Schophoven FSV:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Alexander Herber placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! A collision led to Werder Bremen getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Friedrich Riess hit a great ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Tsuneo Obele made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Gerold Feller hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Meik Mostert took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Malte Thamm, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 57th minute, Fred Ortlieb hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 59 minutes into the match, Werder Bremen's goal looked a bit too open when Benno Naehring came free, but Patrick Orth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Klement Baluszynski charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Klement Baluszynski the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 78th match minute, Werder Bremen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Klement Baluszynski to maneuver through the defense. When Benno Naehring came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Schophoven FSV fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Benno Naehring couldn't finish the play. After 84 minutes, Tsuneo Obele made it 4-0 with a short kick to the right side. Schophoven FSV's Meik Mostert tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. If Malte Thamm had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Malte Thamm in the 97th minute of play forced Schophoven FSV's goalkeeper Meik Mostert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. There was no doubt that Werder Bremen were the better team. Werder Bremen's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
