Friedrich Riess's late challenge caught a FC Vilinia 1955's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Friedrich Riess helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Werder Bremen getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Friedrich Riess hit a great ball. When Keven Fritsche came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the FC Vilinia 1955 fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Keven Fritsche couldn't finish the play. Klement Baluszynski struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Tobias Noltenius didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Werder Bremen. Wolfgang Efe charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Wolfgang Efe the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The goalkeeper, Patrick Orth, was totally fooled by FC Vilinia 1955's Silvio Meisl, who 21 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 28th minute, Tsuneo Obele made a precise shot to the right of Tobias Noltenius. FC Vilinia 1955's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Tobias Noltenius made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tsuneo Obele in the 34th minute of play. Klement Baluszynski kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. 46 minutes into the game, Tsuneo Obele cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Tobias Noltenius was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The FC Vilinia 1955 players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Werder Bremen were winning 1-2.

Malte Thamm could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Tobias Noltenius made a huge save. The supporters of Werder Bremen booed when FC Vilinia 1955 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edgar Holle didn't get a good kick on the ball. Werder Bremen's Alexander Herber couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 58th minute. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 68th minute, Augustin Zahn ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Patrick Orth was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-2. In the 77th minute, Tsuneo Obele got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 79 minutes into the match, Malte Thamm notched a goal, 3-3, to the right of FC Vilinia 1955's Tobias Noltenius. Tobias Noltenius was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. From a short distance, Werder Bremen's Tsuneo Obele, in the 82nd minute, tried to place the ball behind Tobias Noltenius, but the ball hit the right post on the wrong side and went out. Keven Fritsche fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Patrick Orth having to interfere. In the 88th minute, Jonny Knuth hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Tsuneo Obele had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Werder Bremen's Tsuneo Obele got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 96th minute, Augustin Zahn made a precise shot to the right of Patrick Orth. Werder Bremen's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-3. FC Vilinia 1955's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
