Through an outstanding action, after 11 minutes, Lajos Splett successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Sören Chaker received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Patrick Orth tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match clock showed 16 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Casimir Fassbender sped through Werder Bremen's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Patrick Orth. Malte Thamm struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Lajos Splett didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Werder Bremen. Malte Thamm scored 2-1 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Lajos Splett, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 29 minutes into the match, Werder Bremen's goal looked a bit too open when Casimir Fassbender came free, but Patrick Orth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tsuneo Obele sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Klement Baluszynski fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Werder Bremen's protests and gave Klement Baluszynski a yellow card for diving instead. Klement Baluszynski kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Casimir Fassbender's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Patrick Orth read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. After some careless play in the Werder Bremen defense, Sören Chaker kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Patrick Orth. The Werder Bremen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Patrick Orth should have stopped the shot.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Sören Chaker in the 59th minute of play forced Werder Bremen's goalkeeper Patrick Orth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Stefan Landgraf's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 61stth minute, Patrick Orth skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Sarreit FC's Bastian Rühmann got a good chance for a goal in the 79th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sarreit FC made a substitution.
