The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Arko Fiegler during the 5th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 4th minute of the game. One of FC Wangen:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of FC Energie Cottbus:s goal. After 10 minutes, Reinhard Glockner mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Energie Cottbus and the FC Wangen players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, FC Energie Cottbus's Reinhard Glockner got a free kick in the 11th minute. In the 16th match minute, FC Wangen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mike Ballstein to maneuver through the defense. When Reinhard Glockner was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 18 minutes had been played. In the 20th match minute, FC Energie Cottbus was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Reinhard Glockner to maneuver through the defense. In the 26th minute Reinhart Buschlinger shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Donald Gaisenkersting saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 27 minutes into the game, Wolfgang Langer was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Energie Cottbus's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Wangen the free kick. In the 27th minute, Wolfgang Langer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marcus Zabels short, quick shot in the 29thth minute got Stephan Engels to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Reinhart Buschlinger took the ball and in the 32 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Donald Gaisenkersting. Donald Gaisenkersting dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Marcus Zabel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Stephan Engels tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Donald Gaisenkersting stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Wolfgang Langer's shot from short distance in the 44th minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Reinhart Buschlinger to make the kick off. After having played for 54 minutes, Marcus Zabel managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Wangen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcus Zabel was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 55 played minutes FC Wangen got a freekick which was hit by Elias Burkert. 63 minutes in the game, Reinhart Buschlinger fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Donald Gaisenkersting having to interfere. Donald Gaisenkersting made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Reinhart Buschlinger sent off a good shot on target. Detlef Ruben received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Donald Gaisenkersting tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Elias Burkert charged in rather forcefully in the 74th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Elias Burkert the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Fredy Türkmen, 75 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Mike Ballstein hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. Stephan Engels showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcus Zabel in the 86th minute of the match. If Reinhart Buschlinger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. FC Energie Cottbus walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
