Fred Merker blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Eckehard Dörnbrack having to make a save. After 32 played minutes Magdeburg Sport Verein got a freekick which was hit by Noah Sonneborn. Henning Goldmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joachim Brandborn having to interfere. Eckehard Dörnbrack took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Johann Ebbenga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johann Ebbenga in the 47th minute of play forced Magdeburg Sport Verein's goalkeeper Eckehard Dörnbrack to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Johann Ebbenga was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st minute of the match, Fred Merker got a very nice opportunity to score, but Eckehard Dörnbrack was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. If Henning Goldmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Johann Ebbenga might have been able to make a better finish in the 66th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eckehard Dörnbrack. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Johann Ebbenga ran back to his position shaking his head. A collision led to Magdeburg Sport Verein getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Nils Heffungs hit a great ball. Johann Ebbenga received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Eckehard Dörnbrack came out and tried to block the shot, but Johann Ebbenga slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 70th minute. Joachim Brandborn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from David Schneck in the 74th minute of play. In the 80th minute, Henning Goldmann ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Joachim Brandborn was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. Joachim Brandborn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from David Schneck, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 88th minute David Schneck shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joachim Brandborn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 89 minutes, Fred Merker mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Iserlohner Heide FC and the Magdeburg Sport Verein players grew even worse after the yellow card.
