The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Philip Gögge received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Holger Bendel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fred Kummel might have been able to make a better finish in the 26th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Björn Gleixner. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fred Kummel ran back to his position shaking his head. Esparion's attack was well implemented in the 30th minute, but when Tord Balla was about to shoot he didn't get a good hit on the ball and it hit the crossbar and flew over. Goal Kick. After 34 played minutes Nordholt FSV got a freekick which was hit by Frank Leichsenring. Tord Balla came free with the goalkeeper in the 36th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Winfried Gref could save by the left post. If Philip Gögge had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tord Balla's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Winfried Gref read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Philip Gögge stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Helmuth Groth came up free with the goalie in the 96th minute, the Nordholt FSV fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Helmuth Groth couldn't finish the play. In the 99th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esparion's goalkeeper Björn Gleixner, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Esparion's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
