Commerden's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nordholt FSV the free kick. In the 5th minute Fred Kummel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Klaus-Dieter Kurtz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Damir Waidler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 12th minute the ball was on its way in behind Commerden's goalkeeper Klaus-Dieter Kurtz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to Commerden getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Fredi Langensiepen hit a great ball. 15 minutes into the match, Commerden's goal looked a bit too open when Philip Gögge came free, but Klaus-Dieter Kurtz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Klaus-Dieter Kurtz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Philip Gögge, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 21 minutes into the game, Nordholt FSV's Philip Gögge nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Klaus-Dieter Kurtz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Nordholt FSV's Fred Kummel got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rico Rogosch received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Winfried Gref came out and tried to block the shot, but Rico Rogosch slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 28th minute. Klaus-Dieter Kurtz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Philip Gögge, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 38 played minutes Nordholt FSV got a freekick which was hit by Philip Gögge. If Damir Waidler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Philip Gögge's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Klaus-Dieter Kurtz was relentless in the 46th minute of the game. Fred Kummel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Klaus-Dieter Kurtz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Philip Gögge stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Commerden's Klaus-Dieter Kurtz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Philip Gögge in the 59th minute of play. Commerden's Klaus-Dieter Kurtz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save Commerden from getting a goal against them. 69 minutes into the match, Commerden's goal looked a bit too open when Philip Gögge came free, but Klaus-Dieter Kurtz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Philip Gögge had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Fred Kummel managed to get in a good position for a shot. Nordholt FSV's supporters rose to their feet, but Fred Kummel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Klaus-Dieter Kurtz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Klaus-Dieter Kurtz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Fred Kummel went, in the 78th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. In the last second Klaus-Dieter Kurtz throw himself and got hold of the ball when Philip Gögge in the 81stth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. After a defensive mix-up in Commerden's zone, Fred Kummel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Klaus-Dieter Kurtz came out of the goal and Fred Kummel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Philip Gögge might have been able to make a better finish in the 84th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Klaus-Dieter Kurtz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Philip Gögge ran back to his position shaking his head. When Friedemann Hunold fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Commerden's protests and gave Friedemann Hunold a yellow card for diving instead. In the 85th minute, Friedemann Hunold hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 86 minutes into the match, Commerden's goal looked a bit too open when Philip Gögge came free, but Klaus-Dieter Kurtz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 86th minute, Philip Gögge made a precise shot to the right of Klaus-Dieter Kurtz. Commerden's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3.
