When the match had gone on for 10 minutes, Achim Mattheis took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Torsten Kappius to make any attempt to save it. When Achim Mattheis fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FSV Krefeld's protests and gave Achim Mattheis a yellow card for diving instead. Achim Mattheis hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. 14 minutes into the match, Toni Möllmann had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ralph Weichert. FSV Krefeld's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Toni Möllmann was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Lüder Timm kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. In the 19th minute, Peter Timmermann hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Toni Möllmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the FSV Krefeld defense, Didi Hülsen kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ralph Weichert. The FSV Krefeld fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ralph Weichert should have stopped the shot. After 28 played minutes FSV Krefeld got a freekick which was hit by Manuel Tutschek. An unexpectedly hard shot by Holger Leibrandt in the 30th minute of play forced FSV Krefeld's goalkeeper Ralph Weichert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 34 minutes into the match, FSV Krefeld's goal looked a bit too open when Holger Leibrandt came free, but Ralph Weichert reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Torsten Kappius was a little too slow when Joachim Treiber got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 35th minute. The score was now 2-2. If Joachim Treiber had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 45 minutes of play FSV Krefeld's Achim Mattheis was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Ralph Weichert made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Holger Leibrandt in the 47th minute of play.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Peter Timmermann to strike the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Rärin FSV's Niko Quack got a free kick in the 51st minute. A collision led to FSV Krefeld getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Aydin Haslbeck hit a great ball. If Toni Möllmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. FSV Krefeld's defense didn't have a chance, in the 57th minute, when Holger Leibrandt scored to the left of an out of position Ralph Weichert, making the score, 2-3. The audience thought a goal was coming when Holger Leibrandt got free with Ralph Weichert in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a little luck, FSV Krefeld's Ralph Weichert got control of the ball when Didi Hülsen tried to sneak it across the goal line. FSV Krefeld were furious when Till Bürsch was red carded, 63 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 62nd minute, one of FSV Krefeld:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for FSV Krefeld. The goalkeeper, Ralph Weichert, was totally fooled by Rärin FSV's Olaf Rothensteiner, who 65 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Janosch Rummel took the ball and in the 70 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ralph Weichert. Ralph Weichert dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-5. In the 72nd minute, Toni Möllmann hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 82 minutes into the match, Manuel Tutschek had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Torsten Kappius. Rärin FSV's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Manuel Tutschek was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-5. FSV Krefeld's Ralph Weichert played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Toni Möllmann in the 92nd minute of play. 94 minutes into the match, FSV Krefeld's goalkeeper Ralph Weichert had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Holger Leibrandt. In the 98th match minute, Rärin FSV was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Didi Hülsen to maneuver through the defense. Rärin FSV's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
