The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee ignored Aufurth FC's protests and gave Henry Kienast a yellow card for diving instead. Arne Pötters took the ball and in the 17 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lothar Scharpe. Lothar Scharpe dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. 20 minutes into the match, Aufurth FC's goal looked a bit too open when Arne Pötters came free, but Lothar Scharpe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eckhard Gedlich was out of position in the 22 minute of play, and Edbert Darmstadt capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Edbert Darmstadt really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. Guido Gessinger kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. If Arne Pötters had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Arne Pötters managed to get in a good position for a shot. Leusel's supporters rose to their feet, but Arne Pötters was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lothar Scharpe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Stephan Kerrutt kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. Arne Pötters hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Edbert Darmstadt's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eckhard Gedlich read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 69th minute of play. Markus Hanke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Leusel's Joel Schubert got a good chance for a goal in the 83rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Joel Schubert sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Joel Schubert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
