Helmar Boes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Harro Bentz in the 11th minute of play. If Harro Bentz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eckehard Stelze might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Helmar Boes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eckehard Stelze ran back to his position shaking his head. After 15 played minutes FC Dinamo Bucuresti 1948 got a freekick which was hit by Addi Mügge. Alfred Goetsch scored 1-1 in the 19th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Helmar Boes, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Eckehard Stelze managed to get in a good position for a shot. Borussia Dortmund's supporters rose to their feet, but Eckehard Stelze was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Helmar Boes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Heinrich Heck came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Borussia Dortmund fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Heinrich Heck couldn't finish the play. Helmar Boes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Harro Bentz in the 26th minute of the match. Harro Bentz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Helmar Boes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Helmar Boes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eckehard Stelze in the 34th minute of the match. Guido Vorreiter hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eckehard Stelze in the 39th minute of play forced FC Dinamo Bucuresti 1948's goalkeeper Helmar Boes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 45th minute, Eckehard Stelze got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Roman Zeil sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Roman Zeil made the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund's goal looked a bit too open when Roman Zeil came free, but Folke Arnim reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Addi Mügge's late challenge caught a Borussia Dortmund's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Addi Mügge helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, FC Dinamo Bucuresti 1948's Addi Mügge got a free kick in the 55th minute. Alfred Goetsch fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Helmar Boes having to interfere. Emmerich Pflüger received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Helmar Boes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 59 minutes into the game, Borussia Dortmund's Emmerich Pflüger nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Helmar Boes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Pascal Kleppe hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Helmar Boes came out of the goal in the 67th minute to try and stop a shot by Borussia Dortmund's Emmerich Pflüger. But to his dismay, Emmerich Pflüger quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. FC Dinamo Bucuresti 1948's defense didn't have a chance, in the 71st minute, when Harro Bentz scored to the left of an out of position Helmar Boes, making the score, 1-4. In the 87th match minute, Borussia Dortmund was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Emmerich Pflüger to maneuver through the defense. Emmerich Pflüger charged in rather forcefully in the 91st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Emmerich Pflüger the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Borussia Dortmund getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Emmerich Pflüger hit a great ball. Folke Arnim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roman Zeil, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. Eckehard Stelze could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Helmar Boes made a huge save.
