Victor Sager tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rolf Riemann hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. Harro Bentz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Victor Sager having to make a save. In the 11th match minute, Husen-Kurl was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rolf Riemann to maneuver through the defense. Emmerich Pflüger might have been able to make a better finish in the 12th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Victor Sager. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Emmerich Pflüger ran back to his position shaking his head. Christoph Bauer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Folke Arnim tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 17th match minute, Husen-Kurl was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Horatio Bommer to maneuver through the defense. Folke Arnim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horatio Bommer in the 23rd minute of play. If Harro Bentz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 28th minute, Eckehard Stelze got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eckehard Stelze in the 34th minute of play forced Husen-Kurl's goalkeeper Victor Sager to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Victor Sager showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Torsten Naud, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Emmerich Pflüger struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Victor Sager didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Borussia Dortmund. Berti Rogatty sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Victor Sager made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eckehard Stelze in the 45th minute of play. Victor Sager took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eckehard Stelze, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Eckehard Stelze was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to Borussia Dortmund getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Berti Rogatty hit a great ball. Heinrich Heck hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Borussia Dortmund's Emmerich Pflüger got a free kick in the 54th minute. After 56 played minutes Borussia Dortmund got a freekick which was hit by Emmerich Pflüger. Folke Arnim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Horatio Bommer, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. When Emmerich Pflüger came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Borussia Dortmund fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emmerich Pflüger couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Husen-Kurl's zone, Heinrich Heck stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Victor Sager came out of the goal and Heinrich Heck tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 69 minutes into the game, one of Husen-Kurl:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Hartmut Heinzelmann kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. The supporters of Husen-Kurl booed when Borussia Dortmund was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. The Husen-Kurl players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
