An unexpected shot in the 18th minute by Cornelius Lindenthal got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gunnar Kiehl during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Steven Möller, 21 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lars Scholze to make the kick off. Lars Scholze was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 54th minute. hamburger sv's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Sigurd Bauriegel's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 58thth minute, Fabian Berrang skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Fabian Berrang made a fantastic save in the 60th minute, when Lars Scholze sent off a good shot on target. After having played for 86 minutes, Lars Scholze managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. hamburger sv's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lars Scholze was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sigurd Bauriegel took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fabian Berrang. Fabian Berrang dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. After a defensive mix-up in FC Volley's zone, Sigurd Bauriegel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabian Berrang came out of the goal and Sigurd Bauriegel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. hamburger sv played a much better game than FC Volley and deserved their victory. The FC Volley players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
