Julian Vöhringer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Markus Ankleider having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lutz Grohganz got free with Markus Ankleider in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Horst Bechstein recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Leif-Eric Göhner fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Clemens Gehm having to interfere. FC Philcity's Horst Bechstein collided with an opponent after 13 minutes. He was hit so badly that he fractured his arm. When Marcel Tetzner fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Hansa Rostock's protests and gave Marcel Tetzner a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of FC Philcity booed when FC Hansa Rostock was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcel Tetzner didn't get a good kick on the ball. Clemens Gehm stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Julius Walloch's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. Leif Hentrop kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Vöhringer in the 22nd minute of play forced FC Philcity's goalkeeper Markus Ankleider to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. FC Hansa Rostock's Clemens Gehm played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julius Walloch in the 25th minute of play. Lutz Grohganz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Markus Ankleider tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to FC Philcity getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Bernhard Steffel hit a great ball. Lutz Grohganz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 31 minutes into the match, FC Hansa Rostock's goal looked a bit too open when Julius Walloch came free, but Clemens Gehm reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 33 minutes into the game, Eduard Breddermann was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Hansa Rostock's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Philcity the free kick. Clemens Gehm didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hermann Kaufhold went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Julius Walloch's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Clemens Gehm read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Julius Walloch stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd match minute, FC Philcity was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leif-Eric Göhner to maneuver through the defense. Eduard Breddermann took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 53rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Markus Ankleider. FC Philcity's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Lutz Grohganz struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Markus Ankleider didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Hansa Rostock. Markus Ankleider showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Vöhringer in the 58th minute of the match. If Julian Vöhringer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Julian Vöhringer struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Markus Ankleider didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Hansa Rostock. Lutz Grohganz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Markus Ankleider made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Vöhringer in the 70th minute of play. FC Hansa Rostock's Clemens Gehm proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 72nd minute of the match, managed to save FC Hansa Rostock from getting a goal against them. 79 minutes into the game, Julian Vöhringer cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Markus Ankleider was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. FC Hansa Rostock's Julian Vöhringer got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 90 played minutes FC Hansa Rostock got a freekick which was hit by Jürgen Bender. If Eitel Lohrmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
