Markus Frings received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 2nd minute. Hergen Iggelheimer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Markus Frings had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ivica Ladwig hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Markus Frings in the 10th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hergen Iggelheimer saved Piast from getting behind. When the match had gone on for 14 minutes, Markus Frings put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Hergen Iggelheimer. Piast's Hergen Iggelheimer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Walter Beneyto Arago in the 19th minute of play. Piast's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The audience was convinced that Walter Beneyto Arago's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hergen Iggelheimer was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. 39 minutes into the game, Paris Saint-Germain's Walter Beneyto Arago nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hergen Iggelheimer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. Walter Beneyto Arago charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Tjark Obst took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 46th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Hergen Iggelheimer. Piast's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Hergen Iggelheimer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Walter Beneyto Arago, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Walter Beneyto Arago stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Markus Frings struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Hergen Iggelheimer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Paris Saint-Germain. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Walter Beneyto Arago couldn't finish the play. Through an outstanding action, after 74 minutes, Hergen Iggelheimer successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Achim Yilmaz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lars Neitzel in the 75th minute of play.
