The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alfons Achterdeck during the 2nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Focko Wessendorf didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Borussia Mönchengladbach. If Christoph Eggers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 10 minutes into the game, Femke Wahlberg was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Wierthe FSV's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Borussia Mönchengladbach the free kick. In the 10th match minute, Wierthe FSV was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Femke Wahlberg to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute Kasimir Koller shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Johannes-Markus Goldsche saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jacques Aist took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 18th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Focko Wessendorf. Wierthe FSV's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 22nd minute Björn Lembke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Focko Wessendorf saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Femke Wahlberg got his second yellow card in the match during the 26th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. The supporters of Borussia Mönchengladbach booed when Wierthe FSV was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Femke Wahlberg didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 28th minute of the match Pitt Bodin shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Focko Wessendorf showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Wim Gehlen came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Wierthe FSV fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wim Gehlen couldn't finish the play. Christoph Eggers blasted a shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Focko Wessendorf having to make a save. In the 41st minute, Wim Gehlen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 45 minutes into the match, Wierthe FSV's goalkeeper Focko Wessendorf had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Christoph Eggers. Wierthe FSV's Focko Wessendorf played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Björn Lembke in the 47th minute of play.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Björn Lembke made a kick off. Focko Wessendorf took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Björn Lembke, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 55 minutes of play, Borussia Mönchengladbach's Björn Lembke made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Focko Wessendorf was left in no man's land by his defense there! Focko Wessendorf didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Björn Lembke went, in the 59th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. In the 70thth minute of the game Christoph Eggers who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Wierthe FSV's Focko Wessendorf was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Christoph Eggers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Focko Wessendorf tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 75 minutes into the match, Wierthe FSV's goal looked a bit too open when Björn Lembke came free, but Focko Wessendorf reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 83 played minutes Wierthe FSV got a freekick which was hit by Wim Gehlen. In the 85th minute, Wim Gehlen reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Johannes-Markus Goldsche. The goal made the score 3-1. Johannes-Markus Goldsche made a fantastic save in the 89th minute, when Wim Gehlen sent off a good shot on target. Borussia Mönchengladbach's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
