Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Gregor Gratza kicked off to start the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Tim Gottwald managed to get in a good position for a shot. 1. FC Hannover's supporters rose to their feet, but Tim Gottwald was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Johannes-Markus Goldsche breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in 1. FC Hannover's zone, Christoph Eggers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Achim Pfennig came out of the goal and Christoph Eggers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tim Gottwald sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Christoph Eggers recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In a very dangerous position, a player in Borussia Mönchengladbach fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 22nd minute. Penalty! In the 25th minute there was a penalty for 1. FC Hannover. Ivo Haase stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Johannes-Markus Goldsche. 0-1. Achim Pfennig stood somewhat misplaced when Christoph Eggers came free in front of goal and shot 1-1 to the left of him in the 30 minute. Christoph Eggers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Achim Pfennig tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Christoph Eggers scored 2-1 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Achim Pfennig, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Markus Vonderlin might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Johannes-Markus Goldsche. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Markus Vonderlin ran back to his position shaking his head. Christoph Eggers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Hugh Arm could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but Achim Pfennig made a huge save. If Antonio Hesselbach had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Christoph Eggers made the kick off in the second half. Borussia Mönchengladbach's Johannes-Markus Goldsche proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save Borussia Mönchengladbach from getting a goal against them. Alfons Achterdeck kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. After having played for 71 minutes, Christoph Eggers managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Borussia Mönchengladbach's supporters crossed their fingers, but Christoph Eggers was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Christoph Eggers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alfons Achterdeck fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Achim Pfennig having to interfere. Achim Pfennig made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Christoph Eggers in the 81st minute of play. 84 minutes into the game, Borussia Mönchengladbach's Alfons Achterdeck nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Achim Pfennig made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. Tim Gottwald received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Johannes-Markus Goldsche tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Borussia Mönchengladbach had played much better football throughout.
