The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kosmas Rilke to make the kick off. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 89th minute, Manfred Hegemann hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 90 minutes, Carlos Malta managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SV Helsa's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carlos Malta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 92nd minute Carlos Malta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stuart Balint saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. SV Helsa's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Polonia Gaschowitz had won, even though SV Helsa had held more of the ball.
