When Knut Gern fell near the penalty area in the 2nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lühe's protests and gave Knut Gern a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Besiktas booed when Lühe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Knut Gern didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Lühe's zone, Nemo Otte stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jari Flemming came out of the goal and Nemo Otte tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 9th minute, Knut Gern hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ralf Heintges received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Reinhard Gentner tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ralf Heintges fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reinhard Gentner having to interfere. Reinhard Gentner showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Knut Gern in the 20th minute of the match. Ronnie Yüksel struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Reinhard Gentner didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Lühe. 27 minutes into the match, Lühe's Ralf Heintges sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Reinhard Gentner narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Reinhard Gentner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ralf Heintges in the 35th minute of play. In the 43rd match minute, Besiktas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Niko Henrich to maneuver through the defense. Ronnie Yüksel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Fox Schwertges to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Nemo Otte shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jari Flemming saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ralf Heintges in the 54th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Reinhard Gentner saved Besiktas from getting behind. Ralf Heintges received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Reinhard Gentner tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Ralf Heintges managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lühe's supporters rose to their feet, but Ralf Heintges was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Reinhard Gentner breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 72nd minute, Yavuz Dobrindt sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Besiktas's Reinhard Gentner didn't even have to move. 76 minutes into the match, Besiktas's goalkeeper Reinhard Gentner had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ronnie Yüksel. The nice shot from Ronnie Yüksel in the 82ndth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Reinhard Gentner had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. Danko Heffungs recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Kort Grimme hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. Lühe's Ralf Heintges got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 91 minutes into the game, Kort Grimme was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Besiktas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lühe the free kick. In the 91st match minute, Besiktas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kort Grimme to maneuver through the defense. Reinhard Gentner showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ralf Heintges, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. If Ronnie Yüksel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ralf Heintges received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Reinhard Gentner tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reinhard Gentner was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Ronnie Yüksel showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-1 in the 97 minute of play. The Besiktas fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Lühe were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
