Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) After a defensive mix-up in FC Ormont's zone, Ewald Rau stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ferit Petzolt came out of the goal and Ewald Rau tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ferit Petzolt didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ehrhard Hourani went, in the 5th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. The audience was convinced that Hubertus Paziorek's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dietmar Gingold was relentless in the 9th minute of the game. The attack was good, but when Rainer Hollinghausen in the 11th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. After 12 played minutes Gladbach got a freekick which was hit by Arnulf Kahlert. Rainer Hollinghausen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hubertus Paziorek during the 18th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 18th match minute, FC Ormont was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hubertus Paziorek to maneuver through the defense. Dietmar Gingold was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Christoph Dähne showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 22 minute of play. Gladbach's Ehrhard Hourani got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rainer Hollinghausen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Dietmar Gingold tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ferit Petzolt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ehrhard Hourani, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 45thth minute of the game Ewald Rau who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Ormont's Ferit Petzolt was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 46th minute Ehrhard Hourani shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ferit Petzolt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Gladbach were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Rainer Hollinghausen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 55 minutes, Norbert Zerrinius mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gladbach and the FC Ormont players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 56th minute, Norbert Zerrinius hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 60 minutes into the game, Rainer Hollinghausen was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Ormont's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gladbach the free kick. Sascha Reichwein shot from long distance in the 61st minute, but Ferit Petzolt was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. In the 64thth minute of the game Tom Brandi who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Gladbach's Dietmar Gingold was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ferit Petzolt stood somewhat misplaced when Ewald Rau came free in front of goal and shot 1-3 to the left of him in the 67 minute. In the 70th minute Eckehard Dupke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dietmar Gingold saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 72nd minute, Norbert Zerrinius hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dietmar Gingold showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eckehard Dupke in the 76th minute of the match. When Holger Hütt-Berger fell near the penalty area in the 84th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Ormont's protests and gave Holger Hütt-Berger a yellow card for diving instead. In the 83rd minute, one of FC Ormont:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for FC Ormont. With a little luck, FC Ormont's Ferit Petzolt got control of the ball when Ehrhard Hourani tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 92nd minute, Ehrhard Hourani got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Gladbach's Dietmar Gingold played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eckehard Dupke in the 100th minute of play. The Gladbach players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
