After 15 played minutes FSV Harz Thale got a freekick which was hit by Rutger Balterschütz. After a rather tough play, FSV Harz Thale's Sönke Grupe got a free kick in the 16th minute. In the 23rd minute, one of Checkpoint:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Checkpoint. In the 25th minute there was a penalty for FSV Harz Thale. Sebastian Brozulat stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Reinhold Jerems. 1-1. When the match had gone on for 28 minutes, Karel Brockes put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Reinhold Jerems. Thorsten Becker made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Lothar Stötzel sent off a good shot on target. 40 minutes into the match, Checkpoint's goal looked a bit too open when Karel Brockes came free, but Reinhold Jerems reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, FSV Harz Thale's Thorsten Becker got control of the ball when Lothar Stötzel tried to sneak it across the goal line. FSV Harz Thale's Thorsten Becker played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hajo Borger in the 43rd minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Thorsten Becker showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hajo Borger, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. In the 66th minute Dragan Kömm shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reinhold Jerems saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 70th minute, Hajo Borger left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Checkpoint fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. If Karel Brockes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 77 minutes into the game, Gerhard Jakob cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-2. Thorsten Becker was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Thorsten Becker made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hajo Borger in the 84th minute of play. Dragan Kömm was extremely unlucky when he, in the 87th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Karel Brockes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Thorsten Becker showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Barnabas Berg in the 92nd minute of the match. Many of FSV Harz Thale's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. FSV Harz Thale may have spent more time on the ball, but Checkpoint were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
