BSC Young Boys's Alois Wirtz got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alois Wirtz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charly Kösters having to interfere. In the 25th match minute, Govelin was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jannik Andelfinger to maneuver through the defense. In the 26th minute Alois Wirtz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Charly Kösters saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eberhard Fritzenwanker showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rudi Uedickoven in the 28th minute of the match. 29 minutes into the match, BSC Young Boys's goal looked a bit too open when Maurizio Reimann came free, but Eberhard Fritzenwanker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alois Wirtz got free with Charly Kösters in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 41 minutes of play, BSC Young Boys's Linus Böwering made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Charly Kösters was left in no man's land by his defense there! Linus Böwering received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Charly Kösters tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Linus Böwering had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Alois Wirtz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Linus Böwering sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Charly Kösters made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alois Wirtz in the 53rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alois Wirtz in the 54th minute of play forced Govelin's goalkeeper Charly Kösters to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 72nd minute, Michael Betz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Govelin booed when BSC Young Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Daniel Spieß didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Alois Wirtz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alois Wirtz in the 88th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Charly Kösters prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 90 minutes into the match, Linus Böwering had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Charly Kösters. Govelin's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Linus Böwering was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Eberhard Fritzenwanker made a fantastic save in the 94th minute, when Rudi Uedickoven sent off a good shot on target. Charly Kösters showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Linus Böwering in the 96th minute of the match. After 99 minutes of play, BSC Young Boys's Alois Wirtz made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Charly Kösters was left in no man's land by his defense there! BSC Young Boys were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest.
