In the 13th match minute, FC Union Mühlhausen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jan Kubica to maneuver through the defense. FC Union Mühlhausen's Elmar Bordorf played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Helmut Heeringa in the 15th minute of play. 19 minutes into the game, Ulf Kozub cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Artur Kopplin was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Bo Söhner kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. 26 minutes into the match, FC Union Mühlhausen's goal looked a bit too open when Helmut Heeringa came free, but Elmar Bordorf reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Steffen Feuerstein scored 1-1 in the 28th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Elmar Bordorf, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpected shot in the 31st minute by Steffen Feuerstein got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Artur Kopplin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bo Söhner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Emil Welz took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 48th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Artur Kopplin. SV Darmstadt 98's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Bo Söhner made a kick off. After a rather tough play, FC Union Mühlhausen's Bo Söhner got a free kick in the 53rd minute. SV Darmstadt 98's attack was well implemented in the 64th minute, but when Steffen Feuerstein was about to shoot he didn't get a good hit on the ball and it hit the crossbar and flew over. Goal Kick. Elmar Bordorf was left in no man's land by his defense there! When the referee ended the match the SV Darmstadt 98 players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
