The Sönnern fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Klaus Schlesiger got free with Balvis Varlamovs in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in FC Podbeskidzie Żory's zone, Edbert Heiermann stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Balvis Varlamovs came out of the goal and Edbert Heiermann tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Carl Dörnbrack had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. FC Podbeskidzie Żory's Lilian Gastaud got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the referee ended the match the FC Podbeskidzie Żory players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
