Red Bull Augsburg's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nordrath the free kick. 34 minutes into the match, Red Bull Augsburg's goalkeeper Herbert Fendt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rüdiger Hofelich. After a defensive mix-up in Red Bull Augsburg's zone, Rüdiger Hofelich stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. After a defensive mix-up in Red Bull Augsburg's zone, Rüdiger Hofelich stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Herbert Fendt came out of the goal and Rüdiger Hofelich tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rüdiger Hofelich got free with Herbert Fendt in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Herbert Fendt made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Rüdiger Hofelich sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Red Bull Augsburg booed when Nordrath was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Akira Schobel didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 47th minute, Anton Walcher sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Nordrath's Rodrigo Pfaff didn't even have to move. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

A collision led to Nordrath getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Albrecht Sudhoff hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Curd Wilzek in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rodrigo Pfaff saved Nordrath from getting behind. In the 83rd minute, Emanuel Kästner ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Herbert Fendt was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. In the 86th minute Emanuel Kästner suffered a foot injury and had to be helped off the field. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 86th minute of the game. One of Red Bull Augsburg:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Nordrath:s goal. The supporters of Nordrath booed when Red Bull Augsburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hermann Mierzwa didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edbert Köffer got free with Rodrigo Pfaff in the 99th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Nordrath fans cheered their team off the field, for while Red Bull Augsburg had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
