After a rather tough play, Elberfelder FC's Elard Krumbe got a free kick in the 6th minute. Harvard University's Gerald Borchmann couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 7th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Elberfelder FC. After some fancy dribbling in the 9th minute, Cees Ernemann managed to get in a good position for a shot. Harvard University's supporters rose to their feet, but Cees Ernemann was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jeff Westerwelle breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Norbert Dorn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simon Peitsch having to interfere. Simon Peitsch didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Norbert Dorn went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Elberfelder FC's Jeff Westerwelle played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cees Ernemann in the 17th minute of play. Harvard University's Simon Peitsch proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save Harvard University from getting a goal against them. If Dennis Pangerl had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dennis Pangerl fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simon Peitsch having to interfere. After 33 played minutes, Harvard University's Gerald Borchmann shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jeff Westerwelle came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Harvard University reached it. Norbert Dorn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simon Peitsch having to interfere. When Norbert Dorn fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Elberfelder FC's protests and gave Norbert Dorn a yellow card for diving instead. Norbert Dorn hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Harvard University's Arne Gerke got a free kick in the 44th minute. Dennis Pangerl who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 47thth minute tested the skills of Simon Peitsch when he managed to save the team from getting behind.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cees Ernemann to make the kick off. Jeff Westerwelle took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cees Ernemann, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Simon Peitsch stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dennis Pangerl's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. Norbert Dorn received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Simon Peitsch tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Harvard University's Arne Schrader got a free kick in the 61st minute. 65 minutes into the game, Elberfelder FC's Dennis Pangerl nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Simon Peitsch made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Simon Peitsch showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dennis Pangerl in the 69th minute of the match. In the 70th minute Dennis Pangerl shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Simon Peitsch saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Elberfelder FC getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Elard Krumbe hit a great ball. With a little luck, Elberfelder FC's Jeff Westerwelle got control of the ball when Hilbert Raubach tried to sneak it across the goal line. Elberfelder FC's Elard Krumbe got his second yellow card of the match in the 76th minute. The referee ordered Elard Krumbe off the ground. The supporters of Harvard University booed when Elberfelder FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elard Krumbe didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpected shot in the 88th minute by Hilbert Raubach got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. A collision led to Elberfelder FC getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Norbert Dorn hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Elberfelder FC's zone, Hilbert Raubach stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jeff Westerwelle came out of the goal and Hilbert Raubach tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Elberfelder FC had played much better football throughout.
