With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gero Hörnle prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Walt Peleikis was the one to do the kick off. Walt Peleikis's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gero Hörnle read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. Björn Zöllmer might have been able to make a better finish in the 54th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gero Hörnle. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. The supporters of Heilbronn booed when Aachener FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romed Canel didn't get a good kick on the ball. Walt Peleikis kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. Ralf Listl's late challenge caught a Heilbronn's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ralf Listl helped the player get up and apologised. 95 minutes into the game, one of Aachener FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
