Lauritz Roedel was left in no man's land by his defense there! Frank Eitler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Lauritz Roedel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Frank Eitler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lauritz Roedel having to interfere. The supporters of ZüricherFC booed when FC Ratingen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sylvain Röttgen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Frank Eitler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lauritz Roedel having to interfere. Manfred Cabanis's late challenge caught a FC Ratingen's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Manfred Cabanis helped the player get up and apologised. Manfred Cabanis hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Herbert Osterhagen in the 28th minute of play forced ZüricherFC's goalkeeper Stefan Segner to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Herbert Osterhagen fell near the penalty area in the 30th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Ratingen's protests and gave Herbert Osterhagen a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to FC Ratingen getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. ZüricherFC's Stefan Segner played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Herbert Osterhagen in the 35th minute of play. In the 37th minute, Gerke Hellwig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Herbert Osterhagen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Manfred Cabanis made the kick off in the second half. Sascha Fricke hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. Gerke Hellwig sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lauritz Roedel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Frank Eitler in the 62nd minute of the match. With his leg Stefan Segner managed to avoid a goal in the 65thth minute, when FC Ratingen's Gerke Hellwig fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Frank Eitler recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gerke Hellwig fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stefan Segner having to interfere. 73 minutes into the match, ZüricherFC's Manfred Cabanis sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lauritz Roedel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Lauritz Roedel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Manfred Cabanis in the 76th minute of the match. If Gerke Hellwig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, ZüricherFC's Noel Czerkus got a free kick in the 81st minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Herbert Osterhagen in the 82nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Stefan Segner prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 83 played minutes ZüricherFC got a freekick which was hit by Sascha Fricke. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gerke Hellwig got free with Stefan Segner in the 85th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The audience was convinced that Herbert Osterhagen's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Stefan Segner was relentless in the 86th minute of the game. Frank Eitler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lauritz Roedel having to interfere. Manfred Cabanis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Manfred Cabanis came up free with the goalie in the 96th minute, the ZüricherFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manfred Cabanis couldn't finish the play. ZüricherFC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of FC Ratingen for a fine match.
