Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Horst Stieber started the match with the kick off. The Frankfurt fans' excitement grew in the 5th match minute when Frankfurt's Horst Stieber looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Gero Beinlich made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacob Marder in the 9th minute of play. August Kossendey recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 16th minute, Horst Stieber left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Frankfurt fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Gero Beinlich made an important save on a dangerous shot by August Kossendey in the 21st minute. With a little luck, Frankfurt's Gero Beinlich got control of the ball when August Kossendey tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to FC Puhl getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Jacob Marder hit a great ball. After 28 minutes, Horst Stieber made it 1-4 with a short kick to the right side. FC Puhl's Volkmar Post tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Horst Stieber in the 36th minute of play forced FC Puhl's goalkeeper Volkmar Post to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Volkmar Post showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Horst Stieber, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. After having played for 41 minutes, Ingemar Nothhelfer managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Puhl's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ingemar Nothhelfer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robert Rabe in the 43rd minute of play forced Frankfurt's goalkeeper Gero Beinlich to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Robert Rabe was the one to do the kick off. Volkmar Post made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when Horst Stieber sent off a good shot on target. Horst Stieber received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Volkmar Post came out and tried to block the shot, but Horst Stieber slotted it home off the left post making it 1-5 in the 52nd minute. When Frankfurt's Maiko Koewius in the 55th minute got a chance for a shot 55th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye FC Puhl's goalie prevented a goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Horst Stieber got free with Volkmar Post in the 62nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 71st match minute, FC Puhl was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by August Kossendey to maneuver through the defense. Horst Stieber recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Volkmar Post showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Horst Stieber in the 78th minute of the match. If Horst Stieber had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A hard shot 84 in the game by Horst Stieber from a close distance when the talented Volkmar Post managed to make a qualified save. FC Puhl's players were relieved. Karl Wedemeyer charged in rather forcefully in the 89th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Karl Wedemeyer the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 89th minute, Karl Wedemeyer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Frankfurt's Harald Beutel got a free kick in the 91st minute. August Kossendey fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gero Beinlich having to interfere. A collision led to FC Puhl getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Ingemar Nothhelfer hit a great ball. In the 97th match minute, FC Puhl was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Georg Dörpmund to maneuver through the defense. Horst Stieber didn't quite understand what happened when in the 99 minute of the game managed to get a great opportunity for a goal and then missed the goal by a feet. The FC Puhl supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Frankfurt's performance. The match ended with a win for Frankfurt.
