With a couple of smart ball manuevers Stefan Jahr in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Albert Schlein saved Hillsbach from getting behind. If Jockel Scheffczyk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Hamm fans' excitement grew in the 26th match minute when Hamm's Jockel Scheffczyk looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 30th minute, Stefan Jahr ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Albert Schlein was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 33rd match minute, Hillsbach was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Heinz Gelb to maneuver through the defense. In the 48th minute, one of Hamm:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Hamm. The referee gave Hillsbach a penalty, 51 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Eduard Biskup, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Hamm's Arian Tremmel. 2-2. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Benjamin Mayr to strike the kick off in the second half. After 58 minutes, Adnan Schwunk mouthed his way into the referee's book. Hillsbach's Benjamin Mayr got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
